80s TV show “A Different World” was recently rebooted on Netflix. That put sixty four year old actress Jasmine Guy in the spotlight. The internet didn’t like how she looks because she has gotten older and they were vocal about it. It takes a delusional individual to think anyone should look the same in 2026 as they did in 1987.
I think Jasmine Guy looks good. She’s energetic and in good shape. Naysayers were being mean and disrespectful. Jasmine Guy was part of TV history. It’s unfortunate to see someone with Jasmine Guy’s accomplishments be treated so poorly.
The Thursday night prime time line up on NBC in the 80s was historic. The line up was anchored by “The Cosby Show” which was a ratings juggernaut. “A Different World” followed “The Cosby Show” which was followed by “Cheers”. “A Different World” was about a fictional Black college that Denise Huxtable attended. Jasmine Guy became the star of the show for her portrayal of the southern belle Whitley.
I loved the NBC Thursday night line up. Everyone did. I miss appointment TV and I’m not very fond of streaming. There was something to look forward to every night. I love TV.
The Thursday night line up was historic for ratings and for Black actors in prime time. Jasmine Guy played a part in the success of that line up. People should have some respect for Jasmine and she should feel proud of herself.
