“Choosin’ Texas” has been the number one song in America since February. I like the song. It’s catchy and Ella is pretty and charismatic. She deserves success but I don’t think “Choosin’ Texas” is worthy being in the number one spot for half of 2026. After listening to the lyrics closely I realized “Choosin’ Texas” is about being taken for a ride. “Choosin’Texas” is a hobosexual love story.
My narrative after analyzing the lyrics:
Mr. Texas left his home town for some unknown reason. I’m guessing he burned every bridge and needed to expand his horizons. Mr. Texas moved to Tennessee with no money or job lined up. Mr. Texas didn’t know anyone in Tennessee until he met Miss Tennessee, Ella, at the bar.
Miss Tennessee falls for him and he moved in with her. She’s met “the one”. After a while, they start having disagreements. They both enjoy drinking. Ella threatens to kick him out. They make up but Mr. Texas knows he can’t make good on his plans he made with Miss Tennessee. He secretly starts talking to his ex girlfriend Miss Texas once in a while.
Mr. Texas makes nice with Miss Tennessee for a while. He told Ella he wanted her to see his home town. Mr. Texas acted like he wanted Ella to meet his family and friends back home. Miss Tennessee, Ella, thinks she’s getting engaged. Yaay!
The pair go out to the bar one night in Mr. Texas’ hometown of Abilene, Texas. Coincidentally, his ex girlfriend, Miss Texas, is at the bar with her catty friend. Mr. Texas thinks enough time has passed since he saw Miss Texas last so he strikes up a conversation with her and asks her to dance. Mr. Texas heard Miss Texas broke up with her boyfriend after him. Mr. Texas knew that was just a matter of time.
When Ella sees Mr. and Miss Texas dancing she realizes it’s the end. The very end. The beginning of the end was months ago. Her alcohol induced clarity helped her realize she sponsored a hobosexual while he was waiting on his ex to stop being mad at him and break up with a different guy. She helped pay for his gas to get back to Abilene. A cowboy always finds a way to leave. ♫♬
The hobosexual experience is highly relatable for many Americans in 2026. That’s why “Choosin’ Texas” will probably be the number on song well into 2027. Ella Langley will be a legend.
