He Was a Soldier – Gordon/Peter
I recently visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. I saw this familiar image in the museum. I have seen this image many, many times in my life. I learned that this is a picture of a man that escaped slavery and found asylum in the Union Army. He enlisted and fought in the Civil War.
I never knew. I never thought beyond the scars or the circumstances of the man with the scarred and calloused back. I looked at him with pity and sadness. But Gordon also known as Pete sought freedom, found it and then fought for it. He was victimized but was victorious in taking his freedom.

RIP TV Legends: Malcom Jamal Warner, Ozzy Osbourne, Hulk Hogan
Malcom Jamal Warner died this week while on vacation with his family. He drowned after being taken under by a strong current while playing in the water with his eight year old daughter. His daughter survived but he drowned. Malcom was fifty four. He gained fame as a child actor in the 1980s as the only son of the Huxtable family in the 1980s sit com “The Cosby Show”.
Heavy Metal is not my musical preference but I enjoy reality TV. I enjoyed watching “The Osbournes” on MTV in the early 2000s. Ozzy is a unique character. The show portrayed Ozzy as the patriarch of his goth family.
I learned more about Ozzy and his family from the old VH1 show “Behind the Music”. “Behind the Music” was a docuseries that told the stories of pop stars. The Ozzy Osbourne episode was memorable. It discussed Ozzy’s background and the story of how he formed a family with his wife Sharon who was on the reality.
I vaguely remember hearing about Ozzy Osbourne biting the head off a bat when I was young. My parents don’t listen to medal or hard rock. The bat biting incident is the stuff of legend.
Wrestling star Hulk Hogan died the day I’m writing this. I was a wrestling fan as a child. I wasn’t interested in it past fourteen or so. I remember “Wrestlemania I”. Someone at my elementary school went and wore a Hulkamania (or perhaps it was a Hot Rod) t shirt to school the next day. He was the cool kid at school that day.
I love television. These three were TV legends in my lifetime so far. RIP fellas.

I think modern, American society has a lot of integrity issues. There are integrity problems in every facet of life and on every level of society.

I loved Pac Man as a youngster. I had an Atari game console and I spent a lot of time playing Pac Man. I got pretty good at it.

Farewell Teen Moms
I’m a ratchet/reality TV fan and historian. I watched the MTV series “Teen Mom” from the start. I never would have guessed the franchise would have expanded and these women, men and children would be on TV this long. I’ve watched these families go through their ups and downs, divorces, remarriages and the births of half siblings. They’ve been on MTV since 2009. It looks like “Teen Mom” and it’s subsidiaries are coming to an end. It’s time and it’s for the best.
Cast members are hinting that “Teen Mom” is cancelled. There has been no official statement on the reality franchise coming to an end but it hasn’t been picked up for another season. Ratings haven’t been very good for the show the last few seasons. The show hasn’t been that interesting because the teen parents are in their mid thirties and the babies are teenagers.
There really isn’t anything new with the cast members. The cast members are who they are and we know them well by now. The drama is cyclical and repetitive and it’s not really drama by now. The show participants have simply learned to live with abusive relationships, family turmoil, drug and legal problems.
The babies from the first season of “Teen Mom” are old enough to drive. I’ve been concerned for a while that the babies from “Teen Mom” would morph into a new generation of the same show. The idea of that is kind of sad so I’m glad that won’t become a reality. There is one youngster on the show that’s already having personal problems. Keep Jace lifted up in prayer.
The most intriguing, genuine and heart felt part of the series has been watching Justin and Leah raise their fraternal twin daughters Aliannah and Aleeah. Aleeah has muscular dystrophy and uses a wheel chair. It’s been very interesting to watch that family unit grow, change and work through the challenges of raising a daughter with a disability.
It’s been fun to watch the participants of the vast “Teen Mom” universe. I’ve also enjoyed the “Teen Mom” fandom on social media. They’re some real characters too. Farewell and best wishes in the future.
